Some of the biggest names in Bay Area hip-hop and soul music will appear at a block party in front of Chase Center on Saturday, May 18 to introduce its new WNBA team, the Golden State Valkyries.

Performers include E-40, Kehlani, Goapele and P-Lo.

The team announced its identity and branding on Tuesday. A valkyrie is female warrior from Norse mythology. The team will begin play in the 2025 WNBA season at Chase Center, and has already sold 7,500 season ticket deposits for its inaugural season.

The block party will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. in Thrive City. It will be moderated by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Zena Keita, and will also include performances by Khyenci and Mayzin. Valkyries season ticket deposit will receive early access to event tickets on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Fans who wish to become a Valkyries season ticket member can do so at the team’s website. Valkyries merchandise is available now.

“The story of the Golden State Valkyries begins now,” Valkyries President Jess Smith said in a written statement. “And what better way than to be surrounded and supported by Bay Area legends as we take our rightful place in the WNBA and beyond. This is the Bay’s time to show what’s possible with the best fans in the world.”
