SFJAZZ announces 37th festival and summer concert series

SFJAZZ this week announced the lineup for the 37th annual San Francisco Jazz Festival and 2019 Summer Sessions concert series. The festival lineup includes Jazzmeia Horn, José James, Tia Fuller, Fabian Almazan, Linda May Han Oh, The Mattson 2 with Calvin Keyes, Orquesta Akokán, Mark De Clive-Lowe and Rudresh Mahanthappa.

Summer Sessions shows include New Orleans’ renowned Preservation Hall Jazz Band, French gypsy jazz with Latin American cumbia, bolero, tango and samba group Monsieur Periné, the long-lasting Sun Ra Arkestra, Gregory Porter, vibraphonist Mike Dillon Nolatet and his band, and big band ¡Cubanismo!

The festival will run June 11 through 23, with the sessions following from July 11 through Aug. 18. Tickets for both go on sale to SFJAZZ members March 1 at 11 a.m. here, and everyone else can buy tickets beginning March 8. In all, the festival will present 40 shows over 12 days in four venues around San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood.

The festival will kick off with a free celebration at the outdoor Proxy space, along Octavia Street between Hayes and Fell streets, on Tuesday, June 11 from 5 to 10 pm, with live music by Royal Jelly Jive and La Mixta Criolla, a beer garden, classic films and food trucks.
