Rage Against the Machine cancels twice-postponed tour, Bay Area dates

Rage Against the Machine has canceled its twice-postponed tour because of singer Zach de la Rocha’s Achilles injury. It’s a major blow to fans who’ve been waiting decades to see the band perform again, many of whom bought tickets for shows originally scheduled in 2020.
De la Rocha injured his leg at a Chicago concert shortly after the tour finally began. The band was scheduled to perform at Oakland Arena on March 3 and 5, 2023.
“It’s been almost three months since Chicago and I still look down at my leg in disbelief,” he wrote on social media. “Two years of waiting through the pandemic, hoping we would have an opening to be a band again and continue the work we started 30-some odd years ago. … Then one and a half shows into it and my tendon tears. Felt like a sick joke the universe played on me.”
He said that the injury was severe, leaving only a fraction of the existing tendon on his left-leg intact.
“It’s not simply a question of being able to perform again, but extends to the basic functionality going forward.”
The one positive takeaway is that de la Rocha only addressed the 2023 shows in North America, leaving open the possibility of future shows.
