The grassy, tree-lined fields of Sacramento’s Discovery Park will again reverberate with the thunderous circle pits of the hard-rock-centric Aftershock Festival this October. This year’s edition of the West Coast’s only festival produced by Danny Wimmer Presents will feature headliners Slayer, Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Mötley Crüe.

The biggest addition to the this year’s lineup is a fifth stage to its footprint, allowing for for a larger performer bill. The poster for the event is a gargantuan who’s who of rock legends to up and coming acts.

Many of this year’s acts were originally scheduled to perform in 2020 and 2021 but were postponed by COVID-19. Pantera, Judas Priest and Architects were originally to perform in 2023 but dropped out.

Iron Maiden last performed in the Bay Area in 2022. For Slayer, it’s one of three announced shows in 2024. Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, Rise Against and Halestorm also represent return engagements for some of modern rock’s biggest go-to acts.

Other highlights include Scars on Broadway (with System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian), supergroup L.S. Dunes and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morrello and Poppy. Newer acts include the Warning, Dead Poet Society and Winona Fighter.

Last year’s Aftershock hosted about 160,000 people from every U.S. state and 40 other countries.

“We couldn’t be more excited that Sacramento has become synonymous with the largest rock festival on the West Coast,” Visit Sacramento President and CEO Mike Testa said in a news release. “The city is ready to welcome fans for four days packed with more than 130 bands and unforgettable live music experiences.”
