OAKLAND — Day one of the tenth annual Burger Boogaloo was held in Oakland’s Mosswood Park on Saturday. Hosted by legendary filmmaker and counterculture icon John Waters, the day featured nine punk rock acts on a sole stage—half as many stages as in prior years to accommodate the park’s homeless residents.

Headlining both nights of the festival, the Scottish alternative rock mainstay is coming off a 2018 tour opening for Nine Inch Nails.

Dead Boys

Regular performers at New York’s CBGB in the ’70s and friends of The Ramones in its original form, the legendary band was resurrected in 2017 by guitarist Cheetah Chrome, who stands as the only original member.

The Dwarves

For over 30 years, The Dwarves have been performing short, loud, offensive punk rock. After a last-minute 2018 cancellation, the band successfully played the festival in 2019.

Phantom Surfers

The San Francisco surf punk band has been recording and touring since 1988.

NOBUNNY

After a memorable unscheduled set in 2018, the local punk mainstay made a scheduled appearance in 2019.

Sheer Mag

A classic rock-tinged punk band from Philadelphia, they have two albums and three EPs under their belt since forming in 2014.

Amyl & the Sniffers

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, the ‘70s throwback trio reportedly wrote and recorded their debut EP in the span of only 12 hours.

Terry & Louie

Oakland’s Terry Six and King Louie Bankston, formerly of The Exploding Hearts, keep their previous band’s spirit alive with their debut album … A Thousand Guitars.
