Tuesday Tracks: Your Weekly New Music Discovery – Nov. 2
The jazzy nature of Jalen Santoy, emo vibes of Anxious, TeaMarrr’s sensual vocals, guitar-driven melody by Caspr, pop-punk take by Carlie Hanson and Warren Hue’s tongue-in-cheek trap make up the best songs of the week.
Anxious, “In April” — Connecticut group Anxious announced its debut album, Little Green House, alongside this new single. It’s a great listen if you’re in the midst or end of an emo phase. Anxious combines ’90s alt-rock motifs with all the essential elements of emo as well as a fast tempo, loud vocals and an anthemic bridge that leaves listeners with the song stuck in their head for days.

TeaMarrr featuring Meer Colon, “Show Me Love” — TeaMarrr’s latest track articulates the feeling of meeting someone new and the curiosity of learning everything about them. Meer Colon’s verse hits all the feelings that come with trying to figure out if a relationship is going to be yet another talking stage or something more serious. And the breathiness of TeaMarrr’s vocals adds to the sensual nature of the song.
Jalen Santoy featuring Nyla Symone, “STAY” — Jalen Santoy and Nyla Symone come together on “STAY,” which talks about the importance of letting relationships run their course instead of trying to force growth and timing. The track reflects the influences of jazz in Santoy’s life. His verses have a sort of effortlessness that’s present in truly good jazz music. It’s elevated with a little bit of a tropical feel by a mellow guitar as well as some handclaps.

Caspr, “Don’t Make Sense” — The newest track from poppy singer-songwriter Caspr goes down the acoustic route with a guitar-driven melody. He sings about how he misses his ex and wishes he could change the things he’s said. It’s a song that many people can relate to if they’ve gone through a relationship that ended poorly.
Carlie Hanson featuring Deb Never, “Snot” — Carlie Hanson‘s latest track is a deep-dive into her emotional state after a girlfriend left to go back home. The track stays true to its pop-punk roots with Auto-Tuned vocals, electric guitars and high-tempo bass line. It’s a great song to scream along with the lyrics.

Warren Hue, “WEST” — This is the first track from Warren Hue‘s upcoming project, Boy of the Year. The Indonesian rapper wrote it about his experience living in Los Angeles. The groovy trap song isn’t meant to be taken too seriously. Hue says he was inspired by Lil Uzi Vert and it’s clear on “WEST,” with high-pitched Auto-Tuned vocals sprinkled throughout.
Aarushi’s Pick: My favorite track is “STAY” by Jalen Santoy and Nyla Symone. The song immediately reminded me of summer, which is especially appreciate as the weather is getting cooler and the days are increasingly shorter here in Chicago. It feels like spending a day at the beach with my friends. I’ve really liked Jalen Santoy’s music for a couple of years now and always look forward to anything he releases.
