This week, we bring you alt-pop from Allman Brown, soul from Miranda Joan, pop from flowerovlove, jazz from E.G. Phillips and Mar Vilaseca, hard rock from Satellite Citi and alt-folk from The Breath.

Allman Brown, “Breathe In, Breathe Out” – This tranquil alt-pop track creates a sense of calm and reassurance. “Breathe in, breathe out/ I’ll be waiting when you come back down/ It’s just a rush/ Of blood, of doubt/ A sea of worry for you to drown in/ Just take my hand, that might be enough,” Brown sings, over acoustic guitar and piano, with gentle percussion beneath. Brown is putting the finishing touches on his third full-length album, with an EP planned for this winter.

Miranda Joan and CARRTOONS, “Bada Bing” – This soul-drenched track is breezy and delightful (and that’s before you even watch the video, with its “Sopranos” theme, which is a joy unto itself). “You hit me with the bada bing/ Catch my heart like it’s a rebound,” Joan sings. This song, with its jazzy delivery and groovy bass line, also features producer CARRTOONS (Ben Carr). Miranda Joan hails from Vancouver, B.C. but lives in Brooklyn these days. Hopefully there’s more like this coming from her and Carr soon, because this song is irresistible.

flowerovlove, “Next Best Exit” – London artist flowerovlove has a sound that’s at once new and nostalgic. Her music is poppy and catchy even with its lo-fi bedroom pop vibe. This song will be relatable not just to teens (she’s 18) but to anyone trying to decide the next move or swerve on some negative energy. “Here for the ride/ Glad that I tried it/ Don’t matter now/ I’m just trynna find my next best exit,” she sings. She’s sold out headline shows in London and Paris and walked the runway at Paris’ Fashion Week; flowerovlove is already in full bloom.

E.G. Phillips, “I Am the One Who Ghosts” – San Francisco’s E.G. Phillips recorded this tune at Hyde Street Studios. He refers to his sound as “jazz-infused progressive folk.” Here he’s joined by Spanish vocalist Mar Vilaseca, who sings over jazzy piano about “ghosting” in a way that makes it sound spookier than someone just not returning your texts: “I am the one who ghosts/ A magician in a puff of smoke/ The soldier who abandons his post/ I am the one who ghosts.” This track is from his forthcoming EP, Outlaw The Dead.

Satellite Citi, “Anxious Hearts” – Los Angeles’ Satellite Citi is singer-drummer Anna Gevorkian and guitarist Shaunt Sulahian. The duo has a hard-edged sound and deep, thought-provoking lyrics. Gevorkian and Sulahian are bringing an exciting breath of fresh air to hard rock. “Anxiety always taking over me/ When I try to fall asleep/ Heartbeat racing endlessly,” Gevorkian sings of her battles over anxiety. “Anxious Hearts” was co-written with Taylor Carroll of Lit and Arejay Hale of Halestorm. There’s more new music on the way soon, and maybe even a comic book, too.

The Breath, “Little One” – Singer Ríoghnach Connolly wrote this song for her then-unborn child with guitarist Stuart McCallum. Connolly, who was named Folk Singer of the Year by the BBC, has a lovely, soothing voice. “Lay down with me my little one/ I have you now the day is done,” she sings. The Breath’s sound combines an ancient folk tradition with newer sounds. It’s new album, Land of My Other, is out on Oct. 13.

Rachel’s pick: “Bada Bing!” I was totally enchanted by Miranda Joan’s smooth, confident and soulful singing. With its sultry groove, it got stuck in my head like crazy. “Meet on the back nine/ Meet me on the ground floor/ Meet me with the best before it’s done,” she sings. Miranda Joan has swag for days, people.
