Tuesday Tracks: Your Weekly New Music Discovery – Jan. 11

The moonlit soul of Moonchild and Brittany Campbell, the unapologetic ruthlessness of Jaguar Jonze, the luminous pop of Tim Atlas, the soft glow of The Cactus Blossoms’ guitar-led reverie and Judy Collins’ trip down memory lane make up our favorite tracks of the week.
Moonchild featuring Lalah Hathaway, “Tell Him” — This new track from Moonchild (in the group’s second Tuesday Tracks appearance) glistens under the light softly cast by Lalah Hathaway’s angelic vocals. The band builds up the courage to break off an asymmetric relationship. A groove accompanies this inner monologue we’re privy to, before it eventually culminates in intricate cascading harmonies.

Brittany Campbell, “Eternally” — Brittany Campbell’s ethereal vocals are the glue holding her new song, “Eternally”, together. Campbell’s Jazmine-Sullivan-esque ability to carry a tune with grace and power are the main reason you shouldn’t miss out on this one.
Jaguar Jonze, “CUT” — Jaguar Jonze’s new pop punk anthem takes great pleasure in recognizing when the time has come to cut off toxic ties. It’s almost sadistic in its approach and, ruthless as it may seem, it’s probably for the best.

Tim Atlas, “Honeycomb” — Despite its title, “Honeycomb” is more lustful than it is sweet. In fact, it’s about craving as much as it is about dreaming. This new Tim Atlas song (in his third appearance in Tuesday Tracks) heralds spring’s arrival with mere disregard for the fact winter has barely begun. Press play and immerse yourself in the “Honeycomb” time warping fantasy.
The Cactus Blossoms featuring Jenny Lewis, “Everybody” — A dialogue of sorts, “Everybody” sees the very best in people. It wraps the listener in its hopeful glow and chooses to see the right far clearer than all the wrong. If only for three minutes, indulge in the blissful naivety and take a breather.

Judy Collins, “When I Was A Girl In Colorado” — Judy Collins looks back in the folky “When I Was A Girl In Colorado,” tapping in a nostalgia of a time and place that audibly means a lot to her. The sentiment is not lost on a boy who’s not from Colorado, so here’s hoping this song also resonates with you.
Red’s Pick: Moonchild’s “Tell Him” ticks all the right boxes for me this week. From its atmospheric, drum-driven arrangements to the delightful vocal progression and heavenly harmonization, what’s not to love?
