Goldenvoice, the producers of Coachella, are bringing a new music festival to San Francisco this September. The Portola Music Festival has a diverse lineup of alt-pop, hip-hop and dance music artists. In fact, the lineup appears similar to the now defunct Treasure Island Music Festival (which was produced by Another Planet Entertainment.
The Portola festival will take place on Sept. 24 and 25 at Pier 80 in San Francisco. That’s about two months following Outside Lands and a month before Hardly Strictly Bluegrass; both at Golden Gate Park.
The lineup includes Flume, Fatboy Slim, Jamie xx, The Chemical Brothers, Charli XCX, James Blake, Slowthai and many more. Tickets go on sale on Friday, May 20, at the festival’s website.
The event is named for the Portola Festival of 1909, which was a celebration of the reopening of San Francisco three years after the 1906 earthquake.
“This is the festival I’ve wanted to produce for the past decade,” Goldenvoice Vice President Talent Buyer Danny Bell said in a written statement.
The festival will have a grounds that includes tents to a 400,000-square-foot warehouse and a main stage that offers the city’s skyline as the backdrop. Food offerings will include local restaurants that will be announced later, craft beer, local wine and cocktails.
