In recent years the Athletics have celebrated the city of Oakland every May 10 in honor of the region’s 510 area code.

This year, coronavirus threatened to cancel 510 Day. The baseball season is on hold and gatherings are illegal. But the A’s are undeterred, moving the festivities online and tapping one of Oakland’s brightest stars as their headliner.

Fantastic Negrito will perform live for 510 Day Sunday with East Bay native Bukue One opening the show.

“I grew up watching Rickey Henderson steal bases,” Negrito said in a Facebook post. “I witnessed Dave Stewart and Dennis Eckersley pitch brilliantly and the Bash Brothers wreak havoc upon the major leagues. … The Oakland A’s are such an important part of the fabric of the Bay Area. I am so honored to be affiliated with them on any level.”

The show begins at 5 p.m. today on the Athletics’ YouTube channel.
