OAKLAND — A Thursday night concert at Oakland Arena by composer Hans Zimmer was delayed as police investigated an apparent security threat at the venue.

Arena staff began to hold the arriving crowd at about 7:30 p.m., 30 minutes before the time the Hans Zimmer Live show was set to begin. Oakland Arena posted a brief statement to its social media account reading, “we are currently experiencing a delay and more information will be shared shortly.”

At 9:25 p.m., doors reopened for the show.

Security at Oakland Arena said the delay was a safety issue and that the Oakland Police Department was investigating. Concertgoers inside the venue were held inside and not able to leave, and cars already in the parking lot were required to stay as the investigation unfolded.

A source within the Oakland Police Department said the investigation was in relation to a bomb threat at the venue, though no specific details of the nature of any potential security threats was released. Venue security confirmed that was the reason for the investigation and concert delay. Attendees posting to social media also showed those coming from BART stuck on the walkway into the venue.

The doors finally opened at about 9:30 p.m. and the show began 30 minutes later, while attendees continued to stream in. The concert ran until 12:30 a.m. but was cut about 25 minutes short.
