Laurie Lewis curates 6th Berkeley Bluegrass Festival

Freight & Salvage is bringing back the Berkeley Bluegrass Festival for a sixth year. The event, which will take place from April 29 to May 1, includes programming by Grammy-winning artist Laurie Lewis and the Freight’s Artistic Director Peter Williams.
The lineup includes headliners The Seldom Scene, The Grascals and Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands. Other performers include Missy Raines & Allegheny, Kathy Kallick Band, Tim O’Brien an Jan Fabricius, Jacob Jolliff Band and Windy Hill.
There will also be two unique shows that focus on the theme of this year’s festival of connecting music communities across generations and from throughout the U.S.
The NorthSouthEastWest Jam on April 30 will include Michael Daves, Tatiana Hargreaves, Missy Raines, Kristin Scott Benson and Laurie Lewis for an experimental showcase. On May 1, there will be a panel Q&A titled “Generations of Bluegrass,” organized with radio stations KALW and KPFA. The conversation will include musicians Kallick, Raines, Benson and Annie Staninec, who will speak with with hosts Allegra Thompson (“Pig In A Pen”) and Leah Wollenberg (“Bluegrass Signal”) about how they’ve seen the boundaries of the genre shift and change over time, their careers and experiences, and more. This panel conversation will be streamed live, as well.
Additionally, Laurie Lewis and other artists, as well as Freight Education Associate Leah Wollenberg, will teach workshops for all levels of musicians.
