Alejandro Fernández and MANÁ will donate some of their proceeds at Bay Area shows to people affected by the Pajaro Valley flooding, south of Santa Cruz.
Proceeds will go to Community Bridges organization. The Pajaro Valley and surrounding areas are home to thousands of Latino farmworkers who have been displaced due to recent rainstorms and flooding caused by the breach of the Pajaro River Levee.
“At the heart of MANÁ is the belief that our music can be a vehicle for social good,” said Fher Olvera of MANÁ. “When we heard about the devastating storms and saw our people in Pajaro suffering, we knew we had to help. We encourage our fans to help in any way they can.”
MANÁ performs Friday at SAP Center in San Jose and Saturday at Oakland Arena.
Added Alejandro Fernández, who performs at SAP Center on Sept. 9: “My heart breaks thinking of the people of Pajaro who are displaced by these storms. I’m honored that my music and concerts can be a catalyst to bring comfort and aid to this hardworking Latino community and I hope others will join us in helping too.”
Both acts encouraged fans to also donate to the cause through the Community Bridges website. This fundraising effort is the fourth time the two have joined forces on social actions.
During the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, their “Vota Por Nosotros” get-out-the-vote effort encouraged the Latino community to register and vote in places likes California, Nevada, Arizona and Georgia. Last year, they supported immigrant rights, calling for fair immigration policy reform.
Community Bridges is a Santa Cruz County nonprofit helping local children, families and seniors through access to transportation, education, healthy food, health care and crises support, parenting and literacy. Most of these services are available at no cost to the recipients.
