Metallica announces annual All Within My Hands Foundation benefit in L.A.
Metallica on Monday announced the date of its All Within My Hands Foundation’s annual benefit show and auction, which will again take place in Los Angeles.
The concert will take place on Dec. 13 at YouTube Theater. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. TV’s Jimmy Kimmel will again host the event, which returns after a one-year absence in 2023 due to touring. In 2022, the band raised $3 million, which went to its nonprofits efforts to support workforce education, fight hunger and provide disaster relief. That event included appearances by Robert Downey, Jr., Tony Hawk, St. Vincent and performances by Metallica and Greta Van Fleet.
The concert and auction began in San Francisco in 2018. In 2020, it was staged virtually as a pay-per-view event during the pandemic. The band established All Within My Hands in 2017 and the organization has given more than $15 million.
Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster’s website. The band is also selling packages for fans traveling from other parts of the world, which will include both tickets and lodging, via its own website.
Also on Monday, Metallica announced that All Within My Hands is expanding its Metallica Scholars Initiative with its largest grant to date. The program, in its sixth year, is adding 18 new colleges, with each new school receiving $75,000 to enhance career and technical education programs.
The MCI now has a presence in 60 colleges across all 50 United States and in Guam.
In a written statement, James Hatfield said the program speaks to his desire for “breaking the stigma of trade skills.”
“Trade skills are vital to society, and what’s even more important is to support the many folks who are trying to create a career by learning and using these skills,” he said.
All Within My Hands launched the program in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges in 2019, primarily in manufacturing programs. The plan is to expand to construction, healthcare and engineering. By the end of the upcoming academic year, AWMH estimates it will have helped more than 8,000 students gain skills to find meaningful jobs..
