Metallica at the Independent: What attendees are saying
This running post will be updated as more information is reported from the Independent.
Just past 2 p.m. on Thursday Metallica announced it would play at the Independent the same night. Tickets were $20 and were made available only at the 500-capacity club’s box office. The show sold out less than an hour later.
10:30 p.m.: “Sad But True,” “One,” “Master of Puppets,” “Battery,” “Fuel” and “Seek & Destroy.” And that’s the end end. Sixteen songs, with “Enter Sandman” not being one of them.

8:15 p.m.: The Bone gives a sneak peak at the stage. There’s minimal production, even though the Independent’s small stage is packed to the brim.

7 p.m.: Metallica fans and merch ahead of the show. Ticketholders we spoke to said they happened to be in the neighborhood right as the show announcement had been made and took advantage of the close proximity to the box office. Several fans were lifelong fans of the band and listed off shows they’d attended, including one fan sneaking into a Metallica concert. Another last saw Metallica at the S&M2 shows at Chase Center. Many fans came dressed for the occasion, clad in patches sewed onto their clothing.
