Metallica donates $500k to L.A. County fire relief through its nonprofit
Metallica’s nonprofit All Within My Hands Foundation has donated $500,000 to relief efforts around Los Angeles, which faces record-breaking destruction by wildfires since Jan. 7.
The money was distributed to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund, which prioritizes underserved communities, and the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Canyon Fire Relief and Recovery Fund.
The funds will be spent on housing, case management, mental health and medical care for displaced residents, as well as rebuilding essential infrastructure like emergency communication systems. It will also go toward financial disaster assistance, labor law education and immigration services to low-wage workers and immigrant families.
The foundation is inviting others to donate to the two organizations online.
As of Monday, 24 have been confirmed dead in area of the fires, while about 100,000 people remained under evacuation orders, 40,000 acres were burned and more than 12,000 structures—commercial and residential—have been destroyed.
