Metallica announces marching band competition with instrument, gear prizes
Ahead of releasing the band’s 12th album, Metallica has announced a national marching band competition to see which marching bands at the collegiate and high school levels can craft the most interesting rendition of Metallica songs.
The Metallica Marching Band Competition gives entrants access to a library of marching band charts, provided by Hal Leonard via sheetmusicdirect.com, for Metallica songs like “Creeping Death,” “Enter Sandman,” “Fade To Black,” “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” “One,” “Fuel” and many more.
There will be five categories; Division 1 collegiate level, Division 2 collegiate level, high school, and one fan favorite (determined by popular vote) at both the high school and collegiate level. Prizes range from $10,000 to $75,000 in value, including musical instruments and equipment for their school programs. High School and collegiate winners will be narrowed down to five finalists by professional judges and Metallica members will select the final prize winners in each category other than fan favorites.
Participating schools must enter video submissions by Nov. 16. Visit the competition website for more information. Voting begins on Nov. 17 and winners will be selected on Dec. 1.
The new album, 72 Seasons, including lead single “Lux Æterna,” is out Friday.
