Oakland Arena had its highest-grossing year ever for concert and entertainment events in 2022 thanks to shows by the likes of Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam, Kendrick Lamar and Daddy Yankee. McCartney’s May 2022 concert became the arena’s largest-grossing show in history.

The figures do not include basketball attendance for the Golden State Warriors, who called Oakland Arena home until June 2019.

The arena, which has been called numerous names, opened in 1966. It’s managed by ASM Global. In 2022, it hosted 65 events, counted more than 500,000 visitors and saw a 12-percent increase in ticket sales compared to 2019, its last full year prior to the pandemic.

With a maximum capacity of over 19,000, Oakland Arena is one of the largest big event buildings in the country and larger than San Francisco’s Chase Center.

“It was a great increase for us. It continues to showcase that guests are looking forward to the entertainment experience and that Oakland Arena continues to be a spot fans want to come to see shows and join us for family entertainment events,” said Lauren Carey, the venue’s incoming marketing director.

Industry tracker Pollstar named Oakland Arena the 30th highest-earning arena country and the highest in Northern California.

ASM also manages RingCentral Coliseum, next to the arena, and in 2022 the stadium hosted its highest-grossing event ever, a sold-out concert by Grammy winner Bad Bunny—attended by more than 40,000.

Over the course of the past year, ASM Global’s sustainability branch recycled or diverted 440,000 pounds of waste, while adding 104 tons of mulch to the property to help with water retention and reduce landscape watering, among other energy and environment efficiency initiatives, ASM announced.

In a written statement, arena General Manager Nicole Strange said 2023 is off to another strong start with rapper YG and a sold-out Carin Leon show. Future shows include Grammy winner Sam Smith, country star Zach Bryan, Latin rockers Maná, K-Pop star Suga of BTS and Anita Baker.
