Patti Smith to speak in Oakland at Lynn Goldsmith’s photography book launch
Patti Smith will speak next month at friend and photographer Lynn Goldsmith’s launch of her new book that captures the punk icon and poet.
The two will chat with moderator Emma Silvers of KQED about the acclaimed photographer’s coffee table book “Before Easter After,” capturing Smith between 1976 and 1979. During this time, Smith released acclaimed album EASTER.
The book features hundreds of rarely seen photos, both candid and on stage, capturing her rise to fame, as well as handwritten lyrics and other previously unreleased writings, according to New York publisher Rizzoli.
The event will take place on Monday, Oct. 7 at Calvin Simmons Theatre in the newly renovated Henry J Kaiser Center for the Arts in Oakland. It’s produced by Noise Pop, which is also selling tickets on its website.
At the Oct. 7 event, Smith will also perform a short set of music, accompanied by Tony Shanahan. A portion of proceeds will go to the nonprofit Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which provides financial assistance to musicians and music industry workers.
Additionally, attendees will have a chance to pre-purchase a book signed by both Smith and Goldsmith at a discounted price. A limited number of copies will be available for purchase in person. The two will take part in a brief book signing afterward.
Patti Smith is also performing at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco the prior weekend.
