RIFF wins three San Francisco Press Club awards
SAN FRANCISCO — RIFF writer Tim Hoffman and columnist Tony Hicks each won first place and editor Roman Gokhman won second place at the 2022 San Francisco Press Club Awards.
Hoffman was awarded first place in the Digital Media: Columns-News/Political category for his opinion piece “The ramifications of American fascism, which is still here” written in response to the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capital.
Hicks won first place in Digital Media: Columns-Features for Insert Foot, his weekly column that originally ran in the Contra Costa Times newspaper before moving to RIFF in 2019.
Gokhman placed second in Digital Media: Feature Story / Light Nature for his profile of 88rising’s Sean Miyashiro.
Other winners included the San Francisco Chronicle and KRON4. A lifetime achievement award were given to longtime Pacifica Tribune education reporter Jane Northrop, who recently retired. Longtime Bay Area journalist Phil Matier provided a keynote “in conversation with” hosts Wendy Tokuda and Reed Cowan, chatting about California politics and the state of journalism in the U.S.
