The San Francisco Ballet has announced its 90th repertory season; the first led by incoming Artistic Director Tamara Rojo.

The 2023 season will kick off with “next@90,” a new works festival that will feature world premieres by nine choreographers including Nicolas Blanc (Joffrey Ballet), Bridget Breiner (Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe), Robert Garland (Dance Theatre of Harlem), Benjamin Millepied (L.A. Dance Project), Yuka Oishi, Yuri Possokhov (S.F. Ballet), Jamar Roberts (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), Danielle Rowe and Claudia Schreier (Atlanta Ballet).

It will include Christopher Wheeldon’s “Cinderella,” Tomasson’s “Giselle” and “Romeo & Juliet,” and by a mixed repertory program including works by Tomasson, William Forsythe and a live stage premiere of Myles Thatcher’s “COLORFORMS,” which originally premiered at San Francisco Ballet’s digital 2021 season.

The season will run from Jan. 20 to April 30. It will be preceded in December by 33 performances of Tomasson’s “Nutcracker.”

Rojo replaces outgoing artistic director Helgi Tomasson, who retired after 37 years at the helm.
