SF Symphony joins others in statewide symphonic California Festival
The San Francisco Symphony, along with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Diego Symphony, are joining forces on a statewide festival of music from around the world written within the past five years.
The California Festival was conceived by the music directors of the organizations: San Francisco Symphony’s Esa-Pekka Salonen, L.A. Phil’s Gustavo Dudamel and San Diego Symphony’s Rafael Payare.
The festival will take place from Nov. 3 through 19 throughout the state and include more than 50 symphony orchestras, chamber music groups, jazz ensembles, choirs and others performing this new music as part of their season programs. The full roster of participants will be announced later this year.
Besides music needing to have been written within the past five years, the other requirement is for the music to reflect the “experimentation that permeates the history of music in California.” Each participating organization will curate its own program or project.
The festival is supported by the Association of California Symphony Orchestras, providing outreach to arts organizations.
