SFJAZZ announces 40th festival and summer concert series
SFJAZZ this week announced the lineup for the 40th annual San Francisco Jazz Festival and 2023 Summer Sessions concert series.
The festival lineup is led by Jacob Collier, Cindy Blackman Santana with John Medeski, Samara Joy, Ben Williams and Charlie Musselwhite.
Other acts announced include Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, Dan Tepfer, Al Di Meola, Sundra Manning, Brandon Goldberg, Edward Simon, Gerald Clayton, Ambrose Akinmusire, Joel Ross, Barrio Manouche, Gaucho, Donald Harrison, Charles McPherson, José James, John Brothers Piano Company, Malika Trirolien, Steve Lehman, Emmaline, Orchestra Gold, Paula West, Elvin Bishop and more.
This year’s SFJAZZ Summer Sessions encompasses six weeks of programming arranged into thematic weeklong “mini festivals” based on the concept of the Great Americas Songbook but encompassing all of the Americas. Sessions include Savion Glover, Jaz Sawyer’s Soul Jazz Pioneers, Pher, Martin Luther McCoy, Valerie Troutt’s Moon Candy, Sun Ra Arkestra, Buffalo Nichols, Lizzie No, Leon Timbo, Desiree Cannon, Delgrès, Harold López-Nussa, Aldo López-Gavilán, Meridian Brothers, Jesús Díaz y Su QBA, Bill Ortiz, Sam Reider, Jorge Glem, Mario Y Su Timbeko, Michael O’Neill with Tony Lindsay, Taj Mahal, Stanley Clarke, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Erik Jekabson, Felix Peikli, Stella Heath and Tammy L. Hall.
The festival will run June 7 through 18, with the sessions following from July 13 through Aug. 20. Tickets for both go on sale to SFJAZZ members Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at its website. Everyone else can buy tickets beginning March 3. In all, the festival will present 40 shows over 12 days at SFJAZZ Center and Herbst Theatre.

Carrying on the soul-jazz organ tradition, the Seattle-based band brings an evening of dance-inspiring jams including music from their 2022 album Cold As Weiss.
