For anyone interested in attending Chance the Rapper’s and Vic Mensa’s free one-day music festival in Ghana (Africa), United Airlines is providing a discount on travel. The Black Star Line Festival is a music and arts festival that will be set in Accra’s historic Black Star Square on Jan. 6. The lineup includes both Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa, as well as Erykah Badu, T-Pain, Jeremih, Asakaa Boys and others.

The goal of the festival is to bridge between Black people and artists around the world with Africa. The festival’s name was inspired by a shipping company created in the late 1910’s by civil rights leader Marcus Garvey, who wanted to create an economic link between Africa and Black people in the Americas.

The rapper first visited Accra in early 2022 and had fallen in love with the country of Ghana. He’s spent much of the year collaborating with African artists. His 2002 works include partnerships with the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, such as “Child of God,” “A Bar About A Bar,” “The Highs & The Lows” and the recently announced “Yah Know,” which celebrate Black artists and intertwine the worlds of art, music and cinematography. An album, Star Line Gallery, is expected soon, too.

In the week leading up to the festival, Chance is partnering with cultural institutions throughout Accra to host a series of educational panels, fireside chats and opportunities for global idea exchanges.
