SAN FRANCISCO — Austra‘s Katie Stelmanis started her show at the Mezzanine by singing Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s most famous tune, “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” as a tribute to the victims of the Oakland Ghost Ship fire.
Her set was arranged in two parts. The first focused on her new record, Future Politics. As she and her live band played “Future Politics,” “Utopia” and others, some danced while others stood rapt with attention. Even though Future Politics was well received, the climax began when Stelmanis performed older songs like “Beat and The Pulse” and “Lose It,” both from her critically acclaimed Feel It Break album.
San Francisco’s Chasms and New York DJ The Range opened the show with electronic and industrial ambience.
