SAN FRANCISCO — Two-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Luke James made his way to the Bay Area on his “To Feel Love/d” tour to Brick & Mortar Saturday evening.
Following a two-year hiatus to focus on acting, most recently in “The Chi” on Showtime, James brought his energy to the audience and this didn’t go unnoticed. The sound of the electric guitar and drums echoed as James kicked things off with “All of Your Love,” featuring his breathy and controlled vocals. Three more songs off his latest album, To Feel Love/d, followed: “Colours,” “Traveling” and “Go Girl.”
As the night went along the heat went up a few notches. After a fan yelled for him to take off his shirt, he told the fan that she should go first.
Following the interlude “Gratitude,” James slowed the pace with the sultry beats of 2017 single “Drip” and 2020 song “Blow.”His voice filled the room as the crowd grew silent.
As the New Orleans native sang “These Arms,” fans tried to mimic his high notes and ad-libs. James walked from from side to side, taking the reaching hands of women in the front.
DJ and songwriter MAAD showed off her prowess during her opening set, playing classic R&B hits. She energized the room playing songs by Bay Area natives like Too $hort and E40.
