SAN FRANCISCO — One of the original revivalists of the alt-rock movement of the early aughts, Maxïmo Park, returned to San Francisco with anew record in tow. While April’s Risk to Exist may not have the same buzz in the U.S. as A Certain Trigger did in 2005, you wouldn’t be able to guess that judging by the reaction of longtime fans who showed up to see the band perform at the Independent Tuesday.
Maxïmo Park’s set relied heavily on the English band’s oldest and newest records. “Apply Some Pressure,” from the 2005 debut, may have gotten the louder reaction, but the fans seemed just as interested in the new material.
Angeleno singer-songwriter Gothic Tropic opened the show with an eight-song set of polished, shiny pop tunes.
