She may be a married woman now, with a child and a world tour named for her family name – Mrs. Carter – but Beyonce Knowles’ biggest hit is still about being jilted. The pop diva saved “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” for the end of her show Tuesday at HP Pavilion in San Jose, long after numerous video interludes repeatedly dampened the buzz her fans.

While onstage, Queen B ruled. Yet inappropriately placed videos, every three songs, broke the flow in an otherwise strong show.

Beyonce began with two tracks off her newest album, 2011’s “4,” – “Run the World (Girls)” and “End of Time,” which showcased her all-female band and dozen dancers.

Her impressive pipes came into play on the third number, “Flaws and All,” followed by the first video interlude, during which many in the audience sat down.

She returned to belt “If I Were a Boy” and three other songs, but then had to rebuild momentum after another video interlude.

She more or less did it. On “Naughty Girl,” she danced next to a wall of fire, and she had a Vegas showgirl theme on “Party.”

The evening’s best performance was a song fans weren’t really waiting for, “Freakum Dress,” which began with ballet dancing and hit an exclamation point when sparks flew from both ends of the guitarist’s instrument during a solo.

After belting out “1+1” (seated on a piano and wearing a purple sequined jumpsuit) and a few other upbeat tunes, Beyonce, strapped to a zip line, was whisked to the other end of the arena to the “Bey stage.”

With its own catwalk, the platform provided an illusion of an intimate performance for the 50 or so who paid more than a grand to sit inside. Yellow light beams surrounded around the stage on “Irreplaceable,” creating a wall of sorts, and turning the VIP seats inside into a private club.

The set within a set was capped with the only Destiny’s Child song of the night, “Survivor.” It began the strongest stretch of the show, including “Crazy in Love” and “Single Ladies.”
