OAKLAND — On the official last day of winter, K-pop boy group ONEUS turned up the heat inside Paramount Theatre on the second U.S. stop of its La Dolce Vita tour. The fourth generation group, which debuted in 2019 under RBW Entertainment, started off with tracks from their latest EP, September’s La Dolce Vita, before digging back into its two full-length albums and various mini albums.

“To fill your eyes and ears, we have a setlist where our sweat doesn’t dry,” member Hwanwoong said two-thirds of the way into the show. And it was true; up to that point, for about 90 minutes, ONEUS (pronounced “one us”) performed nothing but up-tempo numbers with a heavy emphasis on the choreography.

The group, which also includes Seoho, KeonHee, youngest member Xion and rapper Leedo, came out ready to move with the blistering “Baila Conmigo,” singing and showing off the group’s physical dynamics — forceful movements with limbs flying left and right, interspersed with slow and sensual movements. This continued throughout the night.

Harder banger “ERASE ME,” which like the opener was from the La Dolce Vita EP, followed. “Simulation” was theatrical and dramatic, with a compelling gravelly rap break by Leedo. The group was sometimes backed by other dancers. The show began with ONEUS in white and the dancers in all-black. By the end of the show, the group members were in black and the dancers in white.

Before “Valkyrie,” from 2019 debut EP “Light Us,” ONEUS taught the audience at the somewhat undersold theater some basic hand and arm choreography, and the group obliged during the song. Then, performing in front of images of a traditional temple (the members called it their “Korea stage”), they breezed through “Intro : Window,” with hard-hitting vocals and a beat over an Eastern melody; the more poppy “LUNA,” during which they danced with folding fans; and “LIT.” The latter concluded with a few lines a capella and fans singing along.

Of the R&B-influenced “Same Scent,” the group later compared the Oakland crowd with that of the opening show in Seattle. Apparently, while the Northwest fans danced during the song, Bay Area fans preferred to sway with their hands of their crowds, the members pointed out. Then, fun thumper “A Song Written Easily” gave each member a chance to sing lead between dance breaks. That was followed by “Unforgettable,” which leaned heavily in the direction of ’80s synth-pop influence. It ended emphatically with the five members interlocking their fingers together.

Other highlights included “STUPID LOVE,” which was another showcase for Leedo to show off his chops, this time with a rich molasses-like voice. It also had some of the quickest dance moves of the show.

A surprisingly long but well-done video interlude told a folktale that perfectly set up “Come Back Home.” The song was consisted of heavy modern rock, which differed from everything else in the set, and was also a highlight. ONEUS followed that with hard-edged rocker “Level Up.” That led into into the night’s two ballads, “Epilogue” and “Hailey’s Comet,” which consisted of the group either sitting on stools or pacing around the stage a la Backstreet Boys back in the day. Both songs were led by an acoustic guitar; the latter quickly built into a power ballad with a richer sound. The music, as was the case for the entire show, was supplied via backing tracks. These two songs could be improved at concerts with at least one musician strumming a guitar live.

The last stretch of the show began with more upbeat bangers like “Bring it on,” the funky “BLACK MIRROR” and “No diggity” (not a Blackstreet cover), with the five members maniacally swimming their bodies around in a frenzy.
