SAN FRANCISCO — Five long years had passed between albums for Kate Nash. It was too long of a wait for the U.K. singer-songwriter, said Nash, who released Yesterday Was Forever last month and hit the road promoting her fourth LP. Time was of the essence, as Nash will next be concentrating on the season two premiere of her hit Netflix show, GLOW. At her show at the Fillmore Monday, Nash was eager to play some of the new tunes and break-out some of the older, more aggressive material.

Surrounded by a band of women clad in white pants and white T-shirts, Nash was covered in pink spandex, silver boots, sparkles and a tiara. Overall, it was an outfit that a character from the wrestling show GLOW might wear. Her set included a good portion of newer material, such as single “Life in Pink,” as well as “Always Shining,” “Hate You” and “Musical Theatre.” For whatever reason, she skipped “Drink About You,” the album’s first single and its most raucous tune.

Nash spent the majority of the show pacing and prancing back and forth, approaching the lip of the stage to get into the faces of fans in the first few rows. The band more than held its own, sometimes stealing a bit of the spotlight with impressive solos. A double dose of in-your-face aggression came in the form of “Dickhead” and “Agenda,” the latter of which had an electro-dirge that had Nash rapping. The most heartfelt moment came shortly after, as Nash and her guitarist performed the mid-tempo “We Get On,” after which she climbed down to the security barricade to sing to a young woman in the front row.

SoCal singer-songwriter Miya Folick, fresh off a SXSW appearance that left many buzzing, opened the show with a 35-minute set of contemplative dream-pop, grungy rock and a power ballad or two. One of several highlights came during the dirty garage jam “Trouble Adjusting.” On other songs, Folick reached diva-esque heights. She was also considerably more comfortable on stage, in a matching patterned skirt and jacket, than she was nearly a year ago when she performed in San Francisco with Chairlift.
