We pooled our resources to find some of the best new singles from all genres and backgrounds, so you can find your newest earworm without all the drama. Enjoy this week’s hidden gems.

Didirri, “Blue Mood Rising,” — Described as “music for lovers and overthinkers,” Didirri turns racing thoughts into rock and roll poetry. His new single, “Blue Mood Rising,” is the latest testament to his unique approach. The single denotes falling into a bout of sadness via hearty vocals and a soaring melody. While each verse is delivered headstrong, the Melbourne singer-songwriter’s vulnerable voice makes the song feel like a serenade.

Beabadoobee, “I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus” — The sludgy guitar tones in Beabadoobee’s “I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus” sport indie pop gauziness that even made the Pavement vocalist giddy. However, the new single goes beyond an ode to the indie rock icon. Beabadoobee tackles identity and its perplexing nature, gleaning a new sense of comfort from dyeing her hair blue. Her gut feelings remain on full display, as the bedroom pop artist brings her transformative daze home with nonchalant vocals and off-the-cuff lyrics.

Baby Shakes, “Cause A Scene” — Putting another dime in the jukebox, Baby Shakes give rock and roll a sock-hop spin. “Cause A Scene,” the latest single from the New York City quartet, packs pure unadulterated fun into its sunny vocals and colorful riffage. The accompanying video dives deeper into the band’s retro craze and lives up to the song’s adventurous outlook. It’s an appropriate representation of the band taking New York by storm.

Shaylen, “Own Way” — Shaylen wraps her words around the minimal beat of “Own Way” to a mesmerizing effect. Her cadence is steady with sudden trills, but the pop singer-songwriter weaves it all together seamlessly. Within her smooth timbre, Shaylen delivers sharp, self-aware lyrics that cut deep and call out self-sabotaging behavior. The new video shows the beautiful chaos of it all in action.

Wish You Were Here, “Five Roses” — Like autumn in a song, “Five Roses” by Wish You Were Here glimmers with warm nostalgic tones. The track’s wistful, hushed vocals fashion the song into a natural backdrop for reflection. The project shows Stick To Your Guns vocalist Jesse Barnett tuning into a creative headspace different from his hardcore roots. Barnett will release his debut LP on Sept. 27.

Dearly Beloved, “Close Encounters” — This track from Toronto duo Dearly Beloved comes wired with youthful adrenaline. With fuzzed-out vocals against grainy riffs, “Close Encounters” feels like it could dilate your pupils with its raw power. Sheer rage at play here comes through especially strong when accompanied by the short film, but more so on a hormonal front. “Close Encounters” is off the Stanley-Kubrick-inspired Times Square Discount, with a projected release date of Oct. 25.

Chloe’s Pick: Beabadoobee’s “I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus” feels like looking in the mirror. I also love the conversational ad-libs and the necessary callouts she utters during the bridge: “Your photos suck/ Your brand is shit/ You’re up your butt/ You never really ask me how I am.” It’s everything I would ever want to pour into a song if I could write music.
