Oakland United concert brings Bay Area artists to support Ghost Ship fire victims
Bay Area musicians Thao Nguyen, Tune-Yards, Tycho, Primus and others will headline the largest-to-date Oakland Ghost Ship Fire benefit show Wednesday at the Fox Theater. The fire, which left 36 people attending an underground concert dead, shook the Bay Area’s DIY arts community and the country.
Tickets go on sale today and 100 percent of sales will benefit the Gray Area Foundation For The Arts’ Oakland Fire Relief Fund. The money will first be directed to the immediate needs of fire victims and then the long-term safety needs of the area’s artist community to prevent similar tragedies. So far, Gray Area has collected $500,00 for the cause.
The bill includes Dan Deacon, Boots Riley of The Coup, Christopher Willits, Geographer, Hieroglyphics, Jay Som, Rogue Wave and Sidecar Tommy and of Beats Antique.
Ticks range from $35 to $49.50 and go on sale at 12 p.m. today. Along with the price of tickets, guests will be able to make additional donations. People unable to attend can still donate. The concert is produced by Noise Pop, Another Planet Entertainment and the Paradigm Agency.
