MOUNTAIN VIEW — Glass Animals brought their Tour of Earth to Shoreline Amphitheatre on Wednesday, performing a concert that blended music with science fiction.

The Oxford, England rock and psych-pop band opened with “Life Itself,” of 2016 album How to Be a Human Being. The retro-futuristic show production included big retro consoles that simulated the inside of a space craft, as well as the band’s now-customary pineapple iconography, which included an actual pineapple that had been set onstage on top of some rocks. There were lasers and a glass orb set in the middle read “Mountain View” when Glass Animals took the stage.

Frontman Dave Bayley, full of infectious energy, led the attack on “Wonderful Nothing,” from the band’s new album, I Love You So F***ing Much. His vocals also shined on ethereal new song “Creatures in Heaven,” on which he had a dreamlike tone to his singing.

Glass Animals performed “Gooey,” from their debut album, 2014’s ZABA, with Bayley on Shoreline”s back lawn. The reveal was made dramatically after the lights turned off, giving him an opportunity to make the run up. He vegan singing with the crowd providing backing.

On the song, the band showed off its more experimental psych-pop sound that soon became a staple aesthetic.

During “Pork Soda,” the band picked a fan toward the front and gifted them the pineapple that had been sitting on the stage as Bayley sang the hook, “Pineapples are in my head.”

While the band only performed three songs from its breakout 2020 album, Dreamland, it knew to save its biggest hit from that album, “Heat Waves,” for last. The song’s infectious beat and relatable lyrics had many singing along and swaying to the music.

Manila-born, L.A.-based artist Eyedress (Idris Ennolandy Vicuña) opened the show, delivering an impressive blend of lo-fi beats and mellow groove. Eyedress kicked off the show with “Can I See You Tonight?” and “Romantic Lover,” from 2020 album Let’s Skip to the Wedding.

Tracks like “Pop the Question” and “Something About You” (the latter from 2021’s Mulholland Drive) showcased his ability to blend rock, electronica and other influences into his own distinct sound.
