RIFF’s video concert series features artists of all genres, with a focus on the best hidden gems the local music scene has to offer. If you’re looking for something to do this week, look no further.
Reagan Youth, The Defenders, The Has Beens — Winter’s Tavern — Tuesday
Reagan Youth is an anarcho-punk band that formed in the early 80s in New York. They quickly became one of the most important faces in the New York hardcore scene, along with Cro-Mags and Urban Waste.
Frankie Cosmos, Iji, Boy Scouts — Gray Area Art & Technology Theater — Wednesday
If you know the band Porches, then you’ll already love Frankie Cosmos. Cosmos is a member of Porches, but lately she has surpassed her contemporaries by starting an even more successful bedroom twee pop project.
Nosaj Thing, Com Truise, Cleopold — The Ritz — Thursday
Thought that ambient music and wonky glitch music were impossible to combine? Well, Nosaj Thing has done it and even formed a label around a similar sound. Both he and Com Truise are releasing new albums this year, so come to hear new synthetics.
Kool Keith — The New Parish — Thursday
Kool Keith is playing a show near you! That also means Dr. Octagon, Dr. Dooom, Mr. Nogatco and Sinister 6000 are coming, too. Kool Keith has created multiple personas for himself because he can rap in so many different styles, yet his quality has never diminished from mass quantity. He is a true one-man rapping show and an influential figure in multiple styles of hip-hop.
Die Antwoord, Gucci Mane — Bill Graham Civic Auditorium — Saturday
An unusual combination, but that’s what’s cool in 2017. Die Antwoord released a new single this year, “Love Drug,” and Gucci Mane released a whole album with Metro Boomin and is already releasing singles for his second album to come out this year, Mr. Davis.
