Released Thursday, Don’t Let Me Sleep by Midnight Spin is a rock and roll record. This is music carried by power chords and vocals not meant to be soothing. I’d never heard of Midnight Spin before, but I’m impressed with their debut album. Singer-guitarist Mike Corbett is clearly influenced by Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, but there are influences from earlier ‘90s alternative rock and the early 2000s alt-rock revival.

The band formed in 2008 when friends Corbett and drummer Danny Scull moved to Brooklyn from Washington, D.C. and met bassist Ben Waters and guitarist Jim Terranova. According to interviews, much of the record is a result of late-night recording sessions and freezing treks across New York City.
